What are veneers?

Veneers are a thin ceramic plate (0,8 mm) glued on the front (face) of a tooth to correct the shape and improve the colour of natural teeth. Veneers are mounted on teeth with a suitable veneer cementing system.

Who can use veneers?

• developmental anomalies of teeth
• discoloration (for example, after root canal therapy)
• crowding of teeth
• dental enamel abrasion
• many diastemas between teeth

Advantages of veneers:

• little invasion
• high aesthetics  (perfect imitation of colour, shape and adjacent teeth surface)
• easy replacement  (veneer liveliness can be 15 years)

Application examples:

Example 1:

Before procedure - diastema between incisors

Diastema can be closed not only with composite but also with ceramic veneers.

After procedure - veneer cementing

We used ceramic veneer in a patient providing better looks.

Preparation is guided to palatal surfaces to close contact spacer with ceramic veneers.

Example 2:

Before procedure – shortened upper incisor

Acid erosion, toothbrush abrasion and bruxism caused considerable loss of crown length of anterior incisors.

After procedure - reconstruction using veneers

Upper incisor esthetics and function were restored with veneers.

What conditions must be fulfilled to make veneers?

A large surface of healthy enamel and healthy inner structure are basic conditions. When tooth body is weak it is better to use prosthetic crowns which strengthen and protect from fracture.

After polishing outer tooth surface we take an impression and a technician prepares a veneer.

Contraindications

• estrem bruxism
• high dental caries activity
• no dental awareness
• weak oral cavity hygiene
